Elementis Texas

The old Powerhouse Site was identified as the initial idle asset to address, due to the high level of asbestos containing material (ACM) and the poor stability of the structure.

Recognizing knowledge gaps and expertise within the company’s existing resources, and the risks associated with the Powerhouse Site, Elementis identified the need to obtain a third party to manage the project. RVA had previously conducted work successfully at Elementis’ Eaglescliffe, UK site and was solicited to assist on this project.

Phase II of the project included the ACM decontamination and the demolition of the Powerhouse Site. Due to the severity of the ACM contamination and the poor state of the structure Elementis required extremely high HSE standards to be utilized. These standards far exceeded current US standards and required RVA’s constant attention to the practices at the site. RVA provided a dedicated Project Manager to ensure complete compliance with these high standards.

This project was managed to an extremely high standard with RVA working closely with ourselves and the contractor to deal with challenges as they arose and the ability to address those challenges promptly and to the satisfaction of all involved. Most notably, the project entailed nearly 26,000 man hours to complete over a period of 30 weeks, involved substantial ACM risks, required working with a marginally stable structure, and involved several high silo pulls, all without incurring a single Health, Safety, or Environmental incident.
